Tuer n'est pas jouer (1987)

anglais I like Bond - Dalton even better in the five-star Licence to Kill, but that doesn't change the fact that The Living Daylights is pretty good! Dalton in particular does a lot personally - the guy is simply likable. The jokes were not great (there are a couple of them, but more or less just for a smile), but the suspense and quite vivid action is there from beginning to end, and the music that John Barry composed for this film is one of my favorites. I would like to commend the filmmakers for the care with which they transformed Vienna into Bratislava. There are Slovak signs everywhere you look, people speak Slovak, which can be heard on the radio and television... Nice. But my favorite is the final Afghan part. Could Rambo 3, made a year later, be copying this?

Le Jour le plus long (1962)

anglais One of my favourite war films, full of stars (and stripes), but it must be seen in its original B&W version. The coloured version oddly brings down the atmosphere. PS: You also couldn't get rid of that song?

John Q. (2002)

anglais A rip-off of Mad City and a film without a proper idea to innovate its predictability in any way. That said, the performances are decent. In other words, average. Denzel is no match for the above mentioned Travolta and Hoffman.

Permis de tuer (1989)

anglais It's a shame Dalton only made two Bond films. With what he was criticized for (Bond is not Bond, but rather Rambo with a British accent), Daniel Craig is now celebrating success, and Dalton's films are still seen as the weakest of the entire franchise. Licence to Kill is definitely worth seeing - it's action, action and more action from start to finish, but with humor, suspense, pretty women, the inventions of Q and his department... Well, hell, is he Bond or is he not Bond? Answer: Indeed he is. And he’s certainly not inferior! Just the kind of guy Fleming was writing about!

La Loi et l'ordre (2008)

anglais I was a bit skeptical at first based on what I had heard, but after seeing the film, my fears are gone. De Niro and Pacino may not have made “HEAT 2“, but their performances made Righteous Kill into a very decent and chilling spectacle. It ran out of steam somewhere in the middle of the film, but the ending (was it really that predictable for everyone? It definitely wasn’t for me) made up for it all handsomely. Righteous Kill has an idea, a very interesting and, I think, quite realistic one, that I'm sure everyone has or will at some point think about. Be it a cop or the common man.

In Tranzit (2008)

anglais I can see John Malkovich and Thomas Kretschmann in any movie and I know they won't disappoint. Therefore, in In Transit, these two gentlemen were the best that the creators offered me. The plot was shallow, especially in the last third, almost unbelievably naive, the performances of 90% of the people were mediocre, the characters were undeveloped, I didn't develop anything that could be called sympathy for practically any of them... But I did like the music. Otherwise, it was pretty weak. As a TV movie, In Transit would probably hold up - especially with a female audience. It's a bit of lemonade film.

Sherlock Holmes (2009)

anglais It gets a fifth star after the home DVD "screening".__Sherlock Holmes is a first-class entertaining film that runs like clockwork from start to finish, is thrilling and playful at the same time, and doesn't let up for even a second. Downey and Law played the central duo excellently, Strong's Blackwood is very good as the villain - however, he could have been given a bit more space - and Rachel McAdams doesn't disgrace herself either. Ritchie's direction should be singled out, which in some moments (the boxing, the Holmes+Watson battle against the meat and potatoes, the explosion on the docks) really takes your breath away. I must also mention Zimmer's music - the most addictive soundtrack of the year - and the original plot. The film is of course full of catchphrases, the best being Watson's "Relax... I’m a doctor". I'm looking forward to the second film and to Professor Moriarty!

La Loi du milieu (1971)

anglais After another viewing, I'm raising it to full stars. For all those who, like me, were bothered by the slow pace of Get Carter the first time around, I recommend watching the film again... The gradual piecing together of all the pieces, the way we slowly and surely learn what actually happened to Carter's brother, and especially Cain's gradual "roughening" has a certain charm that you miss if you watch the film expecting action. The atmosphere thickens and thickens and after half an hour the film picks up speed and rushes like a runaway train to the final station, which is... the final stop. At the end, Carter will be relieved, and so will we. And by the time the credits roll, we'll have a lot to think about for a long time thanks to this bastard, who's actually quite likable even when he's killing people.

Jiří Schelinger - Holubí dům (2007)

anglais I don’t have much to add to this - music, lyrics, Jiří... it's a classic. The DVD pleased me in that it is not hastily put together, but rather a quality release of visually cleaned (yes, you can really tell) video clips. You will find typical none-sense like “Dělám hú!", without which it wouldn't be the same, as well as harder (“Nám se líbí") and more thoughtful pieces. But I still think there could have been more to it. Well, we'll see, maybe in time, something will turn up again;-)

Ipcress - Danger immédiat (1965)

anglais So: It's a spy film. A British spy film. Starring Michael Caine, music by John Barry... Could it have gone wrong at all? Looking at director Furie's filmography, in theory, yes. But luckily I saw a top-notch film that I was excited about. Cain's performance, especially in the last third of the film, is absolutely amazing.
