Meurs un autre jour (2002)

anglais The weakest Brosnan Bond... Still, four stars, because I was entertained from the blindfolded, almost realistic beginning to the mega-overwrought ending. It's a Bond birthday present, so it will be especially enjoyed by Bond fans, who will recognize one quote after another and feel like they're in spy-action heaven. Madonna's song, however, is awful. The music (except for "Cuban rhythms") as well... Where did the good old times of Barry go?

Erik le Viking (1989)

anglais You can't compare Terry Jones' solo films with Gilliam's. While Gilliam is more of a fantasist, Jones is more of a story guy - you can see it in Erik the Viking from start to finish. Typical MP humor does not serve here as a narrative element, but rather as "ornaments" hanging on the main storyline... I had a very good time for the less than an hour and a half, but I still expected a bit more. Best scenes - the "rape", Cleese giving orders for executions and mutilations, the choral singing of the islanders, the invisibility cloak, the Viking who knows no fear, the berserk. (I don't need to point out that the best moments of the film are the ones with Cleese and Jones, do I?)

Shadrach (1998)

anglais An enjoyable, slightly above average feel-good film with a great central idea: "Death is nothing. Fear life." I was surprised by Andie MacDowell, whom I had trouble recognizing in the first few minutes.

Bienvenue dans la jungle (2003)

anglais This film was apparently made in the 1980s and found its way to the present day thanks to some weird time machine. And that’s good.

De l'ombre à la lumière (2005)

anglais Maybe I was in a weird mood, but I didn’t like it. Probably what bothered me the most was the predictable and clichéd story. For Howard, who brought in such a good cast, it's weak...

Father Ted (1995) (série)

anglais Possibly the most Monty Python-ish "non-sketch" series with no Monty Python involvement. The scene from the Christmas special, when a bunch of priests get lost among the racks of women's underwear in a department store, will always be memorable to me. This is probably the best parody of clichéd military movies I've ever seen.

L'Inévitable catastrophe (1978)

anglais One of my favourite films of this genre. One scene in particular with Henry Fonda sticks in my mind. And Michael Caine is, as always, flawless. Just like Jerry Goldsmith.

Exorcist: The Beginning (2004)

anglais I love the original The Exorcist and consider it the best horror film of all time. Its sequel... Um, how do I put this... I hate the sequel. Except for The Beginning, which has some distinct pluses (and it's a prequel). First of all, the setting - 99% of the plot (i.e., everything except the flashbacks) takes place in Africa, where you have the feeling that some mystical evil is lurking around every corner. Second, Stellan Skarsgård. Thirdly, Harlin's direction, which doesn't play at anything innovative and, where it can, copies Friedkin's tried-and-true and impressive style from the original film. Fourth, the rawness, the gore and the generally dense atmosphere that runs through the film. Bottom line: I'm satisfied. Although it's not like the original film (because nothing is).

Envole-moi (1998)

anglais Dramatic, funny, romantic... Beautiful. Superb performances by Kenneth Branagh and Helena Bonham Carter, one of the first great soundtracks by Rolfe Kent... In short, it’s beautiful to look at and to listen.

Gang de requins (2004)

anglais Shark Tale has one problem: it wasn’t released before Finding Nemo, and many people will say that it is some kind of imitation. But it’s not. The gangsters in particular are brilliant.
