The Bridge (2011) (série)

anglais An instant favorite. I like Nordic crime dramas, and The Bridge is the best of the best. The series has an excellent atmosphere, a well-written story, and suspense that just keeps building up. I consider Season 2 to be the weakest of the three, but still worth no less than five stars. I was very concerned about Kim Bodnia's departure, but Thure Lindhardt was able to fill his shoes and had great chemistry with Sofia Helin. I hope that the creators will get talked into making a fourth season. The best line of all three seasons: "Saga Noren, Malmö police"."

Eddie the Eagle (2016)

anglais The film could hardly surprise me as I had watched Eddie Edwards at the Calgary Olympics, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s a great film about a great man. I remember watching his efforts at the Olympics on TV. I couldn't help laughing. Interestingly, I didn't laugh at Eddie, I laughed with Eddie and the film brought that feeling back. You just can't dislike the man; I think he did more for the sport than many a champion. I had fun and enjoyed some nostalgic memories.

Room (2015)

anglais A quality psychological drama with excellent performances by Brie Larson and Jacob Tremblay. A strong story that surprisingly (and fortunately) doesn’t end with the mother and son’s escape but follows them as they try to cope with everyday life. This second part of the film made an even stronger impression on me than the first part, in which they were still locked up. The film kept me entertained, and the story completely drew me in. I wish there were more films like this.

Les Mondes de Ralph (2012)

anglais Except for the overly sappy ending, it was a perfect animated film and it made me remember what a great time I had at the arcades. A real treat!

Le Tout Nouveau Testament (2015)

anglais Exasperatingly long and boring, with cringey humor, the peak of which is a male gorilla in the role of a life partner. These are exactly the reasons why I dislike French cinema (with a few exceptions). Plus, the film is purposely trying to cater to absolutely everyone. Luckily, I'm a cynic and I saw through it straight away.

La Peau de Bax (2015)

anglais Once something started happening in the film, I started enjoying it. There’s an interesting plot with an interesting denouement, but the intro seems to go on forever. The first half of the film is incredibly draggy and reminded me of Vietnam war movies (mud, reeds, mud, reeds, reeds, mud, reeds...) only without the war, so it’s really just long shots of Dutch mud. I'm not strictly an action movie fan, and I don’t mind films with a calmer pace, but there should be something going on other than just the rippling of reeds. The 3 stars are for the second half of the film. It could have been 4 had it not been for the unfortunate reeds...

Orgueil et Préjugés et Zombies (2016)

anglais I’ve heard so much negative criticism about this film that I was almost starting to believe it would be as bad as everyone had said. Having seen it, I have to say I enjoyed it a lot. What I liked most was how it managed to keep the original basic storyline in such a wacky plot. That must have been a superhuman feat. I was pleased with the cast. You don't get to see so many Lannisters these days even in Game of Thrones. Overall, I enjoyed this Victorian romantic zombie slasher film.

Balade entre les tombes (2014)

anglais A well-made action film bordering on a film noir that keeps up its suspenseful atmosphere from start to finish. Although there are fewer gunfights compared to other Neeson films, it’s not a bad thing in this case. The film has a good atmosphere and steers clear of unnecessary sentimentality and pathos, so I greatly enjoyed it.

Vampires en toute intimité (2014)

anglais A documentary about a community of undead in New Zealand. I didn't really feel like watching it, but the very first minute made me change my mind. The budget was obviously not huge, but it made the film all the better. I haven't had such a blast in a long time. I was even sorry it was over. All the characters were great, but Vlad and Jackie were my favorites. Great entertainment that I recommend to almost everyone.
