Un singe en hiver (1962)

anglais The film is good in terms of acting, which is hardly surprising given that it brings together greats like Jean Gabin and Jean-Paul Belmondo. But plot-wise it's not that great and at times it just felt like a drinking comedy. Well-acted, but still just a drinking comedy, under which you have to search a bit more for depth.

Oklahoma City (2017)

anglais I like that even in current times, some people show that terrorism isn't just the work of extremist groups of the Islamic faith, but also of other individuals who may not differ much from your neighbor. Even in terrorist attacks perpetrated by white individuals, many people can die, and a similar fanaticism is to blame. The film strives to be largely objective, but it doesn't quite succeed throughout.

Frailty (2001)

anglais Frailty is a solid directorial effort from Paxton, where he chose an intriguing script and skillfully translated it into a suspenseful film with an engaging story and excellent performances. The film isn't as gritty as it could have been, or rather, it's not as explicit, but that's okay because it still has a very good atmosphere that is oppressive, and most of the time it leaves you wondering if Meiks is crazy or not.

Le Magasin des suicides (2012)

anglais In the case of this interesting French animated film, I really liked the concept and animation, but I would probably have liked it even more if the movie had been approached in a much more depressing manner, rather than as light-hearted as it actually was. However, I have to admit that the musical numbers, for example, worked well for me and I enjoyed them very much.

A l’heure des souvenirs (2017)

anglais A film with very successful performances, primarily relying on the acting of the older generation. Jim Broadbent and Charlotte Rampling deliver excellent performances, with Jim Broadbent especially showcasing what a capable actor he is, deserving of every role because he always gives his all. This is also true for this interesting drama.

Necrophobia (1995)

anglais An atmospheric, psychological film where, despite the considerably short runtime, you're not quite sure what it's really about. However, it must be acknowledged that the film is shot with skill that masks the lack of sufficient financial resources. The director knows how to shoot scenes that are disturbing or even uncomfortably scary.

affiche

Wir Wunderkinder (1958)

anglais Even the Second World War can be viewed with detachment, or at least with light humor. And if not directly to the Second World War, then to the advent of Nazism and its consequences. The film shows how history can change the fate of two former friends, but gradually more like two people who hate each other.

affiche

Le Grand National (1944)

anglais When a little girl wants to pursue her dream, she is capable of achieving anything, even winning a race dominated by men. Perhaps it is slightly naive, but thanks to the youthful Elizabeth and the excellent Mickey Rooney, this mostly family-friendly movie with dramatic elements is quite bearable and not unpleasant.

affiche

Nausicaä de la vallée du vent (1984)

anglais Hayao Miyazaki is more mature in this film, if only because the story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world that has been destroyed by human activity and waste. Yes, it's an ecological advocacy, but if every environmental advocacy were presented in such a way, it would be fantastic. A beautiful story with great graphic ideas.

affiche

The Ottoman Lieutenant (2017)

anglais A simple romance about how an American woman falls in love during World War I with a very handsome Turkish officer you may know from Game of Thrones. He didn't play a Turk in that series. It must be saccharine, historically almost embarrassing, and dramatically heightened in a somewhat simplistic way. No, there were no tears to be had.
