Meantime (1984) (téléfilm)

anglais Mike Leigh had excellent actors at his disposal who handled their roles brilliantly, but I can't help feeling that even though this is quite an interesting study of how it's also possible to live in Britain, the film doesn't seem to really go anywhere, as if it hardly has anything substantial to say. Depressing, yes, but the actors deserve admiration above all.

Book of Blood (2009)

anglais The film Book of Blood is essentially just a case of stripping away all the interesting aspects from Barker's books, leaving only the story, from which the filmmakers made something like a classic horror about paranormal investigators with one good idea, but one that Barker himself already had. In my opinion, the film missed the mark by a wide margin, and it failed to extract much from that good idea, mostly just falling into horror clichés.

En direct sur Ed TV (1999)

anglais I didn't expect much from it, and you can indeed see how it's taking quite a calm path. It could have been much more intense, but this is still Ron Howard, who tends to take the middle road. But it does make sense, it has a message, and it wants to show how bored we really are. The funny thing is that the reality of the film also becomes the reality of the present. A celebrity can be an incompetent person who isn't even as good as Ed.

Dr. Alien (1989)

anglais This is such pleasant and silly nonsense that you could easily dismiss it as garbage, but it works, both as an entertaining film for teenagers and as a crazy sci-fi. Here are scenes that are truly great, for example, the musical number is fantastically rock. And exposed breasts? They’re just beautiful to look at.

Blind (2017)

anglais It's not that great of a movie, story-wise. There are hints that it could be quite rough, almost criminal, but the film does not pursue those hints. In the end, it's more of a romance, but I can't help it, I enjoyed it, mainly thanks to the two main actors. I like Alec and Demi.

Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver (2011)

anglais Gingerdead Man 3: Saturday Night Cleaver was again not filmed by Charles Band but by people chosen by him for his studio Full Moon. Once again, it's clear that it doesn't matter, as it won't make a better horror/film anyway; unfortunately, there's no fun in it either. One can appreciate the hint of originality in the concept, i.e., the parodies of other films. Unfortunately, the quality of entertainment is low throughout the series.

affiche

Miss India America (2015)

anglais It's not a great comedy, nor is it something particularly clever in its message, but I can't help it, I enjoyed the characters that appeared here, or rather how they were played by the actors, and I realized that I don't really mind watching a similarly simple film because of them.

affiche

Le Magnifique (1973)

anglais I never really gave it a chance as a kid, and I never saw The Man from Acapulco. I'm glad I finally got around to it now because I found it extremely funny, in places where I certainly wouldn't have laughed as a kid. Belmondo is just great and very natural as a comedic actor. Jacqueline also lights it up a little more.

affiche

Kill the Gringo (2012)

anglais Mel Gibson has shown here not only that he's a good actor who can handle action roles at any age, but also that neo-noir films suit him. Additionally, he's not afraid to stand behind his projects as a producer and possibly as someone involved in the screenplay. There are good ideas and good execution of action scenes, so I am very satisfied with it.

L'Amour est un crime parfait (2013)

anglais Mathieu Amalric and his other great acting performances, unfortunately not crowned by the fact that the film is also great in terms of its plot. The plot good, but it's not outright outstanding. What is presented in the first half of the film is not backed up by a strong second half, as if the writers ran out of steam.
