Week-end Royal (2012)

anglais The biggest drama of this film is actually whether the royal couple will or will not have hot dogs with the president of the United States on a picnic, which are offered to them. The film almost evokes a bit of absurdity, but it ultimately shies away from that and wants to give it proper emotions and historical meaning. Which it doesn't succeed in.

Live By Night (2016)

anglais I must say, Ben Affleck disappointed me in this film. Besides showing off his acting chops, which I don't enjoy much, he's just too macho here, and you don't really believe his emotions, so story-wise, it's quite boring, and also predictable. It jumps from topic to topic, from scene to scene, to keep from being boring. And yet it's boring.

Human Traffic (1999)

anglais A fairly well-captured depiction of how people behave, how they perceive their work, and how weekends are a great relief for them, essentially a temporary dose that helps them escape from routine. They look forward to them, experience them fully, and don't worry about the consequences. And then they fall back into a routine. Actually, it's kind of sad.

L'Apollonide - Souvenirs de la maison close (2011)

anglais This film is crucial for how the brothel is depicted. The rawness, almost naturalism of how some aspects of life in the brothel are recorded, is really disarming and can make watching it quite unpleasant. It's also because the story itself is almost secondary here, as the individual episodes are more important.

Hotel Rwanda (2004)

anglais At the beginning, it beautifully shows the absurdities that can lead to an uprising in a country. The rest of the film then presents what such absurdity can cause. This is almost unbelievable and makes your stomach turn. It's a wonder Paul and his family managed to survive. It really does seem like a miracle. But the madness of people, that's what makes the biggest impression.

Ho Mann Jahaan (2016)

anglais A Pakistani film focusing on people wanting to fulfill their dreams and doing their utmost for it. But it's not exaggerated; it's on a fairly human level, where emotions stem from misunderstanding and the need to overcome obstacles. Unfortunately, there's nothing new in this subject matter, it's just a decently made film.

affiche

Eloise (2017)

anglais Eloise basically remains a film riding the wave of current movies about paranormal investigators, as it's shot precisely like that. There are several recognizable names, but they don't save the fact that the film is dull and towards the end, quite strange and not very logical. But watching Eliza is really enjoyable, and she's the main attraction.

affiche

Home for Christmas (2010)

anglais It's one of those films for viewers trying to showcase interesting, perhaps slightly odd, perhaps slightly humorous characters, especially during the Christmas season when some situations are truly absurd, others dramatic and emotional. However, overall, it doesn't manage to captivate much, and it's mostly just certain scenes that impress, but the whole doesn't work.

affiche

Hitchcock - Truffaut (2015)

anglais When I watched this film, I thought I should first get the book that was actually the reason why this was made and which Truffaut wrote after conversations with Hitchcock. As a bonus, famous and interesting filmmakers discuss the works of these two great personalities.

Même pas mal ! (2004)

anglais When I saw the film years ago in the movie theater, it made a much greater impression on me than it does now. There are still great scenes and some excellent characters, but it didn't captivate me as much as it did back then. So, in the end, just a slight above-average because the film doesn't deserve an average rating. However, Vince Vaughn already shows here how unremarkable he is.
