Hollywood icon Steve McQueen mused whether he was an actor with a racing habit or a race driver with an acting habit. The uncompleted film Day of The Champion was intended to combine his two worlds and pay homage to the sport with a truly authentic on-screen representation of the danger and passion of Formula 1. But the dream project quickly turned into a battle between two major Hollywood studios both vying to release their films first. Despite being months ahead of its competitor, Day of the Champion was plagued with set-backs and was agonisingly shut down before McQueen ever stepped in front of the camera. No materials from its filming were thought to have survived, until now. (HBO Max)
