C'était le lendemain de Noël 1999. Pendant 3 jours, deux tempêtes incroyables ravagent l'Europe entière : Lothar et Martin causant de puissants dégâts et de nombreux morts. Au cœur des Landes, au cours de cette grande tempête qui a ravagé la France, Charlotte Meyer, 11 ans, disparaît sans laisser de traces. Le capitaine Pierre Castaing, (Olivier Marchal) en charge de l’enquête, doit relâcher son suspect, Serge Fouquet, faute de preuves. L’enquête, piétine. L'enquête est au point mort. A quelques centaines de kilomètres de là, Sarah (Sofia Essaïdi), une jeune enquêtrice de la Brigade des mineurs, se trouve confrontée à une autre disparition de fillette impliquant le même suspect...
