You Are a Widow, Sir was one of those comedies that I had always been looking forward to seeing back when we only had four TV channels to choose from. Today, after years, I watched it again only to find that its humor still works perfectly. The scientific progress was enormous, the plot was zany enough and Jiří Sovák made everything even better with his deadpan one-liners. ()
I’m sorry, but I couldn’t relate at all to the humour of this film. It may be as wacky and original as other memorable comedies of the 1970s, but the wackiness in this case borders on great kitsch. I was looking forward to the trio of Sovák, Filipovský, Menšík as always, but under Vorlíček's direction the story seemed kind of bland, nonsensical and mainly not fun. I liked Tomorrow I'll Wake Up and Scald Myself with Tea a lot more. ()
