Nostalgia refers to the feeling one has of a place they left behind. Solastalgia, on the other hand, refers to the homesickness one has when they are still at home. Ecological philosopher Glenn Albrecht calls it the impact of environmental change on the mental health of the people who live through it. With an impressive visual aspect comprised exclusively of drone landscape shots, Kersten’s film explores this relationship in the stories of people affected by the quarry near Maastrich. anglais This is basically a nearly twenty-minute drone (and after a while, quite possibly monotonous) overflight over a quarry near Maastricht, accompanied by commentary from people who have different relationships to the place. But Solastalgia has a certain charm to it, which was no doubt due to the cinematography and the subtle musical score. ()
