anglais Over the Sky has a really very simple and obvious narrative, which is probably not going to be a surprise to any audience who enjoys mediocre romantic movies, despite its attempts at a certain mysticism and symbolism. Even the way they introduce the world between worlds is quite simple to understand, it is easy to figure out and understand exactly who is who, what is happening, and what problems the main female protagonist is going to face. This movie is extremely straightforward and portrays everything in a very clear way, so the course of the narrative is very predictable, and except for Kiku-chan's true nature (I expected her to be someone completely different from one of the possible futures of the main protagonist), there was nothing that really surprised me. On the one hand, this is good, because you are not going to get lost in the plot, even for a moment. However, on the other hand at the same time there is nothing very thought-provoking, or indeed the possibility of making you more interested, surprised, and caught up in it. Then there is the emotional aspect, which is at times really over-wrought (like throughout the ending), and although the screenwriters were really forcing it too much, it ended up not really doing it for me. I found the main male protagonist's performance believable (even though it was not at all suited to Toshiki Seto's voice), and I found most of his efforts endearing. However, I failed to find the main female protagonist's protracted floundering engaging, and at times she was just not very convincing, so I could not relate to her. In all honesty, I even believed that they could bring it to a conclusion (in the style of My Little Pony) with the help of a nice song that explained all the necessary things you should know about the plot, but no, they needed to go deeper and make a simple problem (I mean, all you really need is courage and honesty!) into something much more complicated so they could make it more intense and emotional. Well, yeah, however, I then found it kind of pointless and drawn out, and with all the hysterical screaming it was more like being dramatic just for the sake of being dramatic. I therefore could not really get into it fully because it just did not appeal to me much... In conclusion, Over the Sky has really a very simple and obvious narrative you can watch perhaps once, it holds no surprises, is not at all offensive, and in the end, does not really leave you affected in any noticeable way either. 5.1/10.
