En Angleterre, dans les années 20, cinq notables se rendent à Brighton afin de traiter une affaire. Leur voiture s’étant embourbée à cause d’un violent orage, ils trouvent refuge dans un hôtel lugubre tenu par Uriat et sa mère, une vieille spirite. L’électricité et le téléphone étant en panne, ils se retrouvent coupés du reste du monde. La vieille femme organise alors une séance de spiritisme qui va faire revenir le passé trouble des personnages. Ils seraient responsables de trois meurtres. Et les morts réclameraient vengeance.
