This film is a tribute to Martin Slivka, a major figure in Slovak cinematography and culture. Slivka was involved in Slovak documentary ethnographic cinema, he was also a director, screenwriter, dramaturge, film scholar, professor, author, ethnographer and, above all– a very special person. The documentary commemorates Martin Slivka in the words of people near to him and of his colleagues, and also has aims to uncover the secret of his exceptional work and life. Martin Slivka, a man with a friendly face, impish, smiling eyes, a big heart and beautiful amiable soul; a stern pedagogue, an understanding friend, artist, demanding on himself, and thorough-going at work. He left us a rich legacy – a message which lives not only in his films, but also in his personality and everything he did. In making this film, the filmmakers would like to express their admiration for Martin Slivka and his contribution to Slovak documentary cinema and also to analyse and evaluate his work within the context of European filmmaking.
