Dans les bois (2020)

anglais I’m rather fond of Polish cinema, so I was looking forward to the series, but I had no idea what I was in for. The creators were switching between the two time-planes (it's really trendy now) perhaps too often, making me confused at times, and most of the characters behaved in a very odd way. Plus, I think an excessive number of issues was brought up including murder, missing persons, rape, anti-Semitism, extortion, embezzlement, etc., etc. Based on this list, you’d expect a breathtaking pace, but the opposite was true. The story progressed at the speed of an injured snail doused in honey and condensed milk, so the two-star rating is as high as it gets. ()

La Fin de l'innocence (2020) (E01)

anglais I typically give the opening episodes of a series a neutral three-star rating, unless they're exceptionally good or, conversely, quite bad. Unfortunately, I found myself rather disappointed with this Polish series. While the subject matter seemed intriguing to me, the creators took a somewhat peculiar approach, resulting in a plot that left me bored most of the time. ()

Mensonges (2020) (E02)

anglais The second episode was a whirlwind of chaos — searches for missing people, resolution of a rape case in a different timeframe, essays being written, and even the specter of antisemitism rearing its head in strongly Catholic Poland. Yet, despite everything I've just listed, it all added up to one thing: sheer boredom. ()

Tu ne sais rien (2020) (E03)

anglais The previous episode left me scratching my head when the investigator, suspecting the prosecutor of murder, casually pointed him towards a potential witness. I brushed it off as a minor slip-up at first, but as this episode unfolded with even more nonsensical plot twists, I couldn't turn a blind eye. The logic took a serious hit, and unfortunately, it couldn't outweigh the sheer boredom I felt. 2*- ()

Ce qui gît sous terre (2020) (E04)

anglais This creative team's take on the role of a prosecutor stands out starkly from the usual portrayal. Typically, prosecutors are depicted as big shots, commanding respect from the police and making witty comments out of earshot. However, in this series, the prosecutor is portrayed as a pushover, easily manipulated by others. Despite other nonsense, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself somewhat less bored than usual. ()

Ta sœur est morte (2020) (E05)

anglais After finding a glimmer of hope in the previous episode that maybe the second half of the series would redeem itself, this episode dashed those hopes with a tidal wave of nonsense. I had no choice but to watch my optimism wither away, beyond the point of revival. It was all fluff and no substance. ()

Un long retour (2020) (E06)

anglais My sheer relief at it finally being over gave me a surprising burst of generosity in my rating. Episode six was a complete farce, and the cherry on top was the realization that Klaudia had met a fate worse than death. ()
