Walnut Tree is film about a wedding that introduces, with compassion, warmth, and laughter, the everyday lives of people living in a small village in Kazakhstan. The wedding ceremony is not at all a small or trivial event, but a festival that all of the villagers come out to enjoy.
Gabit and Aisulu are in love with one another. One day, Gabit fetches Aisulu from the riverside where she is washing carpets in order to marry her. Aisulu's parents are - quite unsurprisingly - upset since Gabit did not receive their blessing to marry their daughter. After a while, however, the couple convince her parents of their love for each other and they succeed in holding their wedding ceremony. Soon, Aisulu's parents are also busy preparing for the wedding, which all the villagers are happy to celebrate. Shortly thereafter, Gabit and Aisulu give birth to a baby and again all the village people come to congratulate them. (Busan International Film Festival)
