Quand l’amour frappe sans prévenir… Le jeune Lucas vit avec sa tante Lourdes dans une petite ville rurale. Son quotidien, empreint de tradition et de religion, va être bouleversé par l’arrivée de Mario, son cousin rebelle juste sorti de prison. Le décalage entre les deux garçons donne lieu à un choc des cultures où chacun devra faire un pas pour appréhender l’autre. Mais ce qui devrait être une complicité familiale va laisser place à une attirance inattendue. (Optimale)

For the first ten minutes I felt like I was watching an overly theatrical Christian performance, but that changed, and eventually Cousins turned out to be a pleasantly goofy "cou-mance" (i.e. cousin-romance), spiced with a touch of drama. The two leads had the requisite chemistry, the aunt was likeable, and Julia was a chapter unto herself. Alongside this, I liked the soundtrack - though the music sounded quite peculiar during the final "reveal". In the end, although Cousins brings nothing new to its genre, it captivates with its sometimes exceedingly bizarre atmosphere.
