Sudetenland. Present. The grandson of a murdered factory owner is hired as a mystical guide to a wealthy old man’s fate. The curtly sketched wandering journey through a desolate landscape to the past reveals the roots of human brutality. Motives of personal morality, historical guilt for collaborating with the Nazis and redemption through revenge are unleashed in a phantasmagoric hallucinatory feria, a cruel dance of dehumanized figures driven to fulfillment by revenge, greed, and a faint vision of redemption. The historical allegory of Blood Kin, based on a real event, balances between documentary verisimilitude and expressive, surreal dramatization. (Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival)

Un mélange bizarre et chaotique d'hallucinations, de flashbacks rétro, de scènes théâtrales, d'images industrielles et d'animations, traitant expérimentalement du thème des traumatismes de la cruauté d'après-guerre dans la région frontalière entre la République tchèque et l'Allemagne. Un peu de Stalker et un peu du Habermann, mais réalisé à la façon d'un clip vidéo punk psychédélique, complètement englouti dans une symbolique confuse et incompréhensible. C'est très déviant et non conventionnel, ce qui peut être théoriquement un avantage pour certains, mais on ne peut pas vraiment y trouver de valeurs autres.

The highly innovative approach to the topic of severe trauma caused by the post-war events in the village of Vitín is worthy of an award. I soon got used to the surrealistic style of storytelling pretty quickly, but I felt that the overabundance of psychedelic scenes unnecessarily distracted from the story. However, I really liked the artistry of some of the visual images. The acting performances were also of a very good level, especially Karel Dobrý as Otfried Hille was once again at his best. (65%)
