Warrior is a gritty, action-packed crime drama set during the brutal Tong Wars of San Francisco’s Chinatown in the second half of the 19th century. The series follows Ah Sahm (Andrew Koji), a martial arts prodigy who emigrates from China to San Francisco under mysterious circumstances and becomes a hatchet man for one of Chinatown’s most powerful tongs (Chinese organized crime family). Filmed in Cape Town, South Africa, this CINEMAX drama series is based on writings of martial arts legend Bruce Lee, and created and executive produced by Jonathan Tropper ("Banshee") Justin Lin. Season 1 (2019) (S01)

anglais The first season wasn’t bad, it just seemed a bit unbalanced. For example, the fifth episode was just way off and had absolutely no impact on the rest of the plot, while other episodes weren’t far from perfect. I was a little sorry that the authors couldn’t avoid the clichés that go hand in hand with this theme, or the interracial romance which was completely unnecessary for the story. But the action scenes were top notch, the main storyline was really entertaining, and I'll definitely watch the next season. ()

Un oignon qui dérange (2019) (S01E01)

anglais I was looking forward to the series but the pilot episode didn't convince me much. Right from the beginning, it struck me that some Chinese guy beats up three immigration officers and nothing happens, all calm and easy. I also didn't like the soundtrack used; the main character looks like no one told him which century the story takes place in, his exaggerated speech quickly got on my nerves. However, the plot itself intrigued me, so I hope for better days ahead. ()

Il n'y a pas de Chine dans la Bible (2019) (S01E02)

anglais The negatives from my previous comment persist, but the story is not bad at all and all the battle scenes look very good. I did enjoy the second episode better though, organized crime could not function without politics and the creators are obviously aware of that. ()

John Lechinois (2019) (S01E03)

anglais And once again, the result was slightly better. The creators are currently succeeding in building an interesting story for me, politics and intrigues are running at full speed, and this time it was also shown how important functional witness protection is. In the nineteenth century, this institution did not exist, families were in danger, and houses were burning... ()

La Montagne blanche (2019) (S01E04)

anglais The series was developing so nicely, and now I have experienced a completely unnecessary disappointment. The creators came up with a highly unlikely romantic-sexual relationship that I'm not interested in and that only unnecessarily slowed down the pace of the story. Oh well, I can be glad that it wasn't another today's popular testosterone-filled nonsense. ()

Le Sang et la m*rde (2019) (S01E05)

anglais I gave one star to the episode for excellent action scenes, the second one for seeing Vince Masuku again after a while, but other than that, I had nothing to evaluate. It seems like the creators realized they only had material for nine episodes, and in order to fulfill the contract, they hastily filmed an episode that has nothing to do with the main storyline, and I don't understand how it could have any impact on the future plot. It was simply filler, action-packed and entertaining, I admit, but still just filler. ()

Broyé, recraché et piétiné (2019) (S01E06)

anglais As I expected, the sixth episode had no connection to the previous Special Western episode and confirmed that it was completely unnecessary. This time I was satisfied, the story had a very decent pace, the plot moved nicely forward, and I enjoyed the events in Chinatown and O´Hara's gambling debt resolution. ()

Le Tigre et le renard (2019) (S01E07)

anglais Aside from Lee's impressive and extremely politically correct story, I was quite satisfied with the seventh episode overall. The trend from the previous episode continued, events were set in motion unstoppably, Ah Toy finally showed her claws, and I had a great time. Additionally, the creators fully demonstrated that they are quite mischievous :-D, and the ending of the episode was like a punch to the head - as a joke, it was very good :-D. ()

Ils ne nous paient pas assez pour penser (2019) (S01E08)

anglais First came a heavy disappointment, after the conclusion of the previous episode, I was expecting something more than a minute-long clash, but the rest of the episode calmed me down enough. Once again, there was cheerful politicking, scheming, and manipulating, and what I missed in the opening fight, at least partially made up for it by Ah Toy. ()

Boxe chinoise (2019) (S01E09)

anglais Films and series that feature various Eastern martial arts have one basic problem - when it comes to a 1 vs 1 fight, the fighter who wins in the end is the one who initially receives the biggest beating, that's an unchanging rule and it's already so clichéd that one could cry. I was quite bored with childhood memories and I have no idea how the mayor found out about the duel, so it was rather weak. 3* ()

Si tu te prosternes, va jusqu'au sol (2019) (S01E10)

anglais The final episode of the first season was rather weak. I guess I was expecting a more significant plot, on the other hand, I assume that the creators will be able to smoothly continue with all the prepared storylines in the second season, so it's more about my personal feeling. ()
