Tang is an artist in present-day China. Over the years he has produced "Black Paintings" by splashing black paint on black canvases. The story begins when the artist village where Tang lives is being forcefully demolished by the authorities. He himself is in police custody for "hindering law enforcement". As a result, he and his wife and daughter have to move to a new artist village, East Village. Life here is not easy. There are thousands of artists competing for the same opportunities, living from hand to mouth. Tang uses his own body and blood to create his art. It is his way of expressing his protest against all kinds of violence and oppression. A story about how being an artist is a high-risk occupation in China. (Warsaw Film Festival)
