"And what will you do? Wash your hands of the state of the world?" asks the mosaic of Pilate's court everyone who is willing to stop and experience the story, which is today more topical than ever -- even though it is two thousand years old. In short, the ceramic mosaic "Pilate's Court" by Jano Koehler is a truly unique piece of art. Its artistic expression and qualities can be compared with Picasso's Guernica or the works of Andy Warhol. The documentary film captures the process of restorating the 597 tiles, which took six years to complete. Viewers can see the mosaic being dismantled down to its basic elements and the shapes, lines, and colours are once again connected with sensations that influenced Köhler's artwork. The film thus offers a meditative view of the craft, personality and mind of an outstanding artist who is being rediscovered today – his work is found to be truly timeless. Finally, the mosaic got its chance to speak out through film. (Academia Film Olomouc)
