anglais A road movie about a moment of rock 'n' roll in a flood of grey. The road movie of two "wannabe" rockers, one of whom constantly sips coffee while the other drinks vodka by the bottle, is based on absolutely laconic humor. Mato Valtonen doesn't change his bear grimace even once (and yet his character is beautifully elaborate), Matti Pellonpää enjoys playing the childish poser Orimatillan Jymy, and the way he crams romantic sprawl into the Finnish equivalent of Bohuš Stejskal is amazing. It's actually a kind of Peculiarities of the National Hunt inside out, but much deeper in terms of character relationships. The austerity and distaste for flamboyant gestures is at its core the most proper rock 'n' roll I know. Kaurismäki's escape from the greyness of existence after many times, this time in a hardened comedy with less talking has such an inner drive that it messed me up. Quiet, the rockers are playing. ()
