A modern day restoration comedy. Based on a true story, this is an uplifting and irreverent comedy that tells of pensioner Cecilia Gimenezs infamous restoration of the Ecce Homo fresco in a church in Borja, Spain. Her enthusiasm and heavy hand succeeded in transforming Jesus into something more monkey-like. The locals were horrified but the fresco quickly attracted worldwide media – and tourists with Euros – to the remote village. This funny and heightened account of the painting that made the world laugh explores what its like to be an artist, the vagaries of the creative process and what makes a piece of art successful.
