Selon une ancienne prophétie, si l’héritière du trône n’a pas trouvé mari lors de son dix-huitième anniversaire, elle sera enlevée par un être maléfique. Mais Kristin, la jeune et indépendante fille du Roi, ne croit pas à ces légendes. Elle repousse tous ses prétendants et s’enfuit la veille de son anniversaire. Craignant le pire, le roi promet gloire et fortune à qui lui ramènera Kristin. Alors que prince et chevaliers se lancent à sa poursuite, c’est Espen, un jeune fermier, qui retrouve sa trace, au-delà du Royaume des Hommes, dans une lointaine contrée peuplée de créatures magiques. I was wondering at first why Norwegians would go to the Czech Republic to film a fairy tale, but during watching it started to make sense. Ours and their sceneries complement each other perfectly. The combination of rocky valleys and beautiful mountains is a perfect fit for this movie. A fairy tale as it should be. I’m almost wondering if the Scandinavians are used to this kind of fairy tales. Quite unusual for them.

Espen has destroyed the family cottage and if he wants to put things back together, he needs to find and rescue the princess and win half the kingdom. Unfortunately, the princess finds herself in the grip of a giant monster, and a cocky prince from a neighbouring kingdom is also after her. This rescue won't be easy... but it will be fun. This Norwegian adventure tale filmed in the Czech Republic has likable characters, nice costumes, a surprisingly good monster and everything a genre film like this should have.

A perfect fairy tale from Norway and I can't remember seeing anything better since Stardust. There is more or less everything that should be in a fairy tale: a princess kidnapped by a troll, a smug prince, a courageous hero, a witch, a magical map, and a nice mix of Norwegian mythology with some parts filmed in the Czech Republic. I had a lot of fun. 80%.
