Not long before his death the great actor Marcello Mastroianni decided to make a documentary self-portrait, in reaction to requests from many directors who had offered to shoot his biopic. Instead, Mastroianni handed the camera to his life partner Anna-Maria Tatò, and as the title Marcello Mastroianni: mi ricordo si io mi ricordo already implies, the old Prince Charming parades loosely through his recollections. Tatò gives him ample opportunity to dwell on moments in his career that affected him personally. Mastroianni also illuminates his less well-known sides as a musical star and an opera singer (!). Throughout the documentary, in long takes that sometimes last up to seven minutes, he talks about acting, his cinematographic friends and the import of the Italian cinema, an account that encompasses more than 170 films.
