Epic That Never Was, The

I, Claudius, could have become the second highlight in von Sternberg's sound filmography, but he never got over his peak in The Devil Is a Woman, and all his other films are mere shadows of his genius. This fascinating documentary talks about the situation during the filming through the words of the "survivors" through a careful lens. It is cautious on the grounds that they were still too alive for all the past events and any harsher criticism might not benefit their future careers. (14/03/2012)
