A comedy which whisks the viewer off to the quiet Southern Bohemian town of Kameňákov. An array of typical Czech characters and archetypal families live life to an unvarying rhythm. The Novák's are a good example: the father is on the police force, his wife is a teacher, their daughter studies nursing, and nine-year-old Pepíček is a motor mouth commenting on anything and everything that happens. Imagine then the kid's surprise when two representatives of the English nobility arrive in order to claim the local palace (recovered through the post-Revolution restitution process). Small towns keep no secrets; soon everyone knows that the new lord of the manor has come to search for the treasure his father allegedly stashed away. And this juicy tidbit whets the appetites of the three local mafiosi in particular: a hardened criminal, the nouveau-riche Khon, and the town's dandy of a mayor. (texte officiel du distributeur)

anglais If this is supposed to be our modern national humour, I'm packing my bags and I’m emigrating to Siberia. Imagine if aliens actually landed on our planet, that they would turn on the TV to see how much fun we have as a race, and would have the honour of seeing a naked Václav Vydra standing in front of a mirror and praising his nature. In the worst case, they would condemn our nation to perdition, or they would give us the immense pleasure of demanding the extradition of director Troška. I don’t know about you, but I’d gladly sacrifice him. ()

anglais I'd like to write something intellectually discoverable on the subject of Kameňák, but here neither shaldism nor vulgarism will work. Just crystal clear waste. The condensed misery of Czech culture. It says something about the level of the average Czech viewer. In fact, a worthy achievement and excellent testimony for future film scientists and sociologists (unless Kameňák fans have a coup and order the shooting of those who do not laugh at it). Thanks, Mr. Troška, somebody's got to do the dirty work! ()
