Saving Jamaica Bay tells the story of how one community – led by a family with roots in the area stretching back more than 100 years – fought the government and overcame Hurricane Sandy to clean up and restore the largest open space in New York City, which had become a dumping ground for garbage, sewage, sludge and bullet-riddled mobsters. Narrated by actress Susan Sarandon, the film includes interviews with the community activists who led the fight, and state and city officials. The film also symbolizes efforts to preserve nature, combat climate change and restore urban national parks. (Palm Beach International Film Festival)
