Fauda (2015)
Season 1: So the first season is over and I'm maybe even a little bit happy with the result. The first episode set the bar incredibly high in terms of suspense and action (the infiltration of the wedding) and if the other episodes were in the same vein, I'd be pretty damn happy. Unfortunately, judging by the reviews here, I was expecting an action/espionage romp set against the backdrop of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but unfortunately the following 11 episodes stick very close to the ground and we hardly see any action or more suspense. The protagonist is a charismatic dude stealing Fauda for himself and the rest are rather by-the-numbers, the villain is a very sterile version of what we'd want in a series like this, there's little action, the suspense often lags behind as well, and in the end it's basically a dramatic conversation piece that doesn't bore, but I was definitely expecting something else. I'll still watch the next season after the break though, as the reviews promise a grittier and more badass follow-up, so hopefully it won't disappoint...
