If mountains have soul, it must be monumental... Ninety years ago, a young student achieved something that had been viewed unthinkable. Wieslaw Stanislawski climbed new, challenging routes in the most precipitous and most treacherous Tatran faces, equipped with only a hemp rope around his waist and tremendous passion and desire in his heart. Two friends set out in his footsteps, determined to conquer Tatran crags in wintertime. They copy his trails while the mountains bridge their thoughts. In thundering avalanches and stinging sun rays, they discover Stanislawski's message: If a man does something from the depth of his heart, he does it best. Stanislawski was the synonym for colossal energy and the source of vital force. In the lore of the Tatras, the period of his greatest achievements (1929-1933) is referred to as Stanislawski's era to this day. "Having searched through archives and museums on the Slovak and the Polish side of the Tatra, we did not find anybody even remotely similar," said director Pavol Barabáš. "He was the embodiment of a mountaineer." (IFF Bratislava)
