Movie debut from Theater Writer-Director Tomáš Svoboda, tells the story of four friends; passionate water polo players, who together operate a public swimming pool. The swimming pool is closed by local health department. This leaves the foursome literally at the bottom, and one of the polo players is even forced to live at the bottom of the empty pool, after he storms out from his home while having a fight with his wife. The lack of opportunities forces them to start a business as "Husbands for rent" and soon they find their clientele among the local ladies. Each gentleman has their regular customers, apart from household repairs these ladies often have very specific wishes and needs. This eventually starts causing problems in their personal relationships. The story culminates with an unexpected journey to Tatra Mountain Resort where everything comes to a head, but in the end everything is worked out; however, with many surprises along the way. français Les bandes-annonces ne m’ont pas spécialement impressionné, mais pour une fin d’année, rien de tel qu’une bonne petite comédie déjantée. ()

anglais Handyman could have been a pretty decent comedy if the creators hadn’t lost their judgement a couple of times without being able to find it again. Several scenes felt like they were intended for an audience suffering from dementia, and I was going to give two stars, but then I added a third one for well-written and even better-cast characters. Too bad about those goofs, this film had much more potential. ()

anglais A traditional Czech film. It has a few good ideas, but otherwise, it is very ordinary, it’s all been seen hundreds of times before, and it’s interchangeable and ultimately useless. The basic idea has been seen in plenty of other films and really the only interesting thing here is the room at the bottom of a drained pool. Honestly, that's not enough for one, let alone two films. anglais The Handyman is exactly the type of comedy that I would be happy to give four stars to, but it just doesn’t work, even if I close both of my eyes. But it’s a comedy that is more or less nice. I laughed, the characters couldn’t be more pleasant, I wasn't bored. What more could one want from a comedy? Perhaps only if there were no scenes that made me think that this film actually doesn’t need them. For a film to present me with David Novotný screwing Jitka Čvančarová and on top of that acting as if it was cool to do such things in a movie was really baffling. I have nothing against sex scenes in general, but here they felt just completely out of place and made an otherwise fine comedy cringy. ()

anglais Sexist jokes like the ones in Husband to Rent are repugnant to me. In particular, the storyline revolving around David Novotný and Jitka Čvančarová disgusted me so much that I am unable to objectively judge whether the rest of the film is watchable or not. (35%) ()
