Porkkalan evakuointi

According to the armistice signed on September 19, 1944, Finland leased the Porkkala peninsula to the USSR for a period of 50 years. A Soviet navy base was to be established on this strip of land bordering Gulf of Finland. This is a touching documentary on the evacuation of Porkkala in which 10,000 people were removed from their homes within 10 days. It was shown only in 1955 but shot in its entirety in September 1944. Porkkala was returned to Finland as soon as January 1956. (Tampere Film Festival)
