L'incroyable histoire d'une mystérieuse inconnue, photographe reconnue aujourd'hui comme l'une des plus grandes Street Photographers du 20ème siècle. Née à New York, d'une mère française, avant de résider à Chicago, Vivian Maier était inséparable de son Rolleiflex et prit tout au long de son existence plus de 100 000 photographies sans jamais les montrer. Pour être libre d'exercer son art quand elle le voulait, Vivian Maier fut une nanny excentrique toute sa vie. Cachées dans un garde-meuble, c'est par hasard que John Maloof mit la main sur les photos de Vivian Maier en 2007. Depuis, il n'a cessé de chercher à mettre en lumière son travail et les expositions se multiplient partout dans le monde. A depressing and dramaturgically unmanaged band of shapeless heads, which uninterestingly speak of a rather interesting fate. Constructed according to the "I will impress you and you will give me an Oscar" midcult recipe. Maloof seems to think that with this documentary, he is helping Vivian Maier make history, but I think only her photographs can help her do that. Not this self-impressive school exercise...

The film Finding Vivian Maier offered me exactly what I like in documentaries. I get to learn about an interesting life that I wouldn't have known about other than from this film. And that is the case with the introduction to Vivian Maier. It's interesting, a bit bizarre and peculiar, but it's also beautiful how everyone talks about her a little differently, how they present their memories. An image of one person is being created, with everyone having something different to say about her. The fact that she herself can't say anything only adds to the peculiarity of it all.
