97 ans après qu'une guerre nucléaire ait éliminée toute vie sur Terre, les seuls survivants, en orbite au moment de la catastrophe, se sont maintenus dans des stations spatiales parallèles. Au nombre de 400 au départ, ils sont à présent 2237 à vivre sur l'Arche, la dernière station spatiale agonisante. Les conditions de vie y sont drastiques et extrêmement sévères. Il faut contrôler la démographie et ralentir au maximum l'épuisement des ressources. Tout acte déviant est puni sans commune mesure, les emprisonnements et les peines capitales se multiplient. Un retour sur Terre est-il possible ? Une seule façon de le vérifier : redescendre. 100 jeunes mineurs délinquants sont envoyés comme cobayes afin de tester la faisabilité d'un repeuplement. Clarke, Wells, Finn, Bellamy, Octavia... Pour que l'espèce humaine survive, ils vont devoir aller au-delà de leurs peurs et se surpasser. (Syfy France)

I’m writing my review after having seen three seasons. The show is spectacular but lacks quality acting, writing, and direction. The whole thing strikes me as a failed improvisation, which is a shame because the original idea wasn't bad at all. It's just that the writer obviously stopped coming to work and then it all went downhill. I can’t say the actors didn’t make an effort. On the contrary, they tried so hard that they overdid it. There’s also too much of bathos, heroic poses, declarations, and speeches that make everyone stop even during the fiercest battle. On the other hand, there are things to be learned. For example, that it’s possible to build a hermetic room in 20 minutes in primitive conditions with basic tools using debris from a space station. Most cringeworthy character: Octavia. Most annoying character: the chancellor/prophet Jaha. Let me just add that I’m not an ardent critic of everything on the CW, I did enjoy iZombie.

This series has a very promising premise that is sure to excite fans of the post-apocalyptic genre. But all that potential is walled off by the attempt to ride the wave of hugely successful teen movie series of recent times like Twilight or Hunger Games, and so it targets mainly teenage viewers (thematically it is closer to Hunger Games than the qualitatively unfortunate Twilight). Thus, the fate of humanity is not as important as which of the young and beautiful, shampooed heroes and heroines falls in love with whom. Too bad, there was more here. But as a guilty pleasure – why not?
