My Grandfather Planted a Beet

Classic Czech fairy tale - is it really Czech at all? - and one of the first films by Jiří Trnka. According to records, it was his actual directorial debut. When it comes to animation, it may surprise that Trnka also played with shadows, but what stands out is that it's not just a mere retelling, there are Trnka's own artistic elements that bring the story to life and give it something extra, something at times even surreal.
