As a young boy, Louis Palmer sketched a solar-powered car on his copybook. He returns to this dream twenty years later as a primary school teacher in Lucerne, and he begins to make it a reality with the help of several enthusiasts. In the summer of 2007, the first prototype of the vehicle was created. Thanks to solar panels placed in a trailer, it was able to run continuously on solar power alone. A journey could now begin. To Louis's surprise, the car did not breakdown after a few hundred kilometres, and so he was able to continue his promotional journey amidst great interest from people and the media. He successfully completed it after 18 months. In each of the 40 countries that he visited, he organised a lecture at a selected school. At a UN conference on global warming, he was even appointed as an official taxi driver for ministers from individual countries. Erik Schmitt's deftly edited road movie with forceful music and spectacular images of an untraditional journey depicts the fulfilment of one childhood dream, which could make a crucial contribution to a global reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
