La Figure des trois villes

Matti Kassila’s documentary’s Tampere portion introduces us to the vibrant local theatre scene. Pyynikki Summer Theatre performs Tuntematon sotilas (The Unknown Soldier), while Tampere Workers’ Theatre enacts Niskavuoren naiset (Women of Niskavuori). In addition, actor Eino Salmelainen rehearses the classic Finnish ballad Elinan Surma (The Murder of Elina), and we see author Väinö Linna at his farm. Tampere City Library’s head librarian Mikko Mäkelä introduces us to authors from neighbouring municipality Pirkkala. Lastly, actor Veikko Sinisalo reads from Finnish poet Lauri Viita’s novel Moreeni (Moraine). (Tampere Film Festival)
