anglais The great Zarah was interviewed in the mid-1970s for the GDR with Rainer Bertram. The almost 70-year-old diva reminisces and talks about her beginnings, how the whole of Europe was looking for a new Garbo, how she started in German cinema, and all the little things connected with her work in the UFA studios. A lot of space is devoted to Detlef Sierck, her first films, and her work on individual hits. She enthusiastically tells us that her concerts are mostly attended by a young audience. She gets irritated at repeated questions about Goebbels, logically, because she hears them over and over again. Right from the start, she denounced her only problematic film The Great Love and elevated her songs above all her film roles. She held Heinrich Georg in high esteem, whilst also remembering her partners Birgel and Staal. She mentioned her relatively low earnings during her 6 years of film work in Germany and explained her attitude at the time as to why she wanted a career in Europe. Like many others, she had family at home and could travel to Sweden more easily than she could have from Hollywood. At the beginning, the situation was immediately set up that she would do the lead roles in Europe, which MGM didn't guarantee. Eine Diva Erzählt. ()
