The Event

Provisional rating after the first episode. I will surely keep watching, it’s perfect genre-wise, though the execution does have its issues. There are moments when the camera shakes too much, the special effects are not very convincing and the alternating timelines were quite annoying at first, and mostly pointless, but the key between them appears by the end of the episode, so I’m satisfied. Let’s see where this goes. After the second and third episodes, I’m beginning to see the same symptoms as in Lost, which means that I can’t wait for the next episodes. Edit after four episodes: the plot moves forward very fast, there are no missteps. There are some naive moments (there’s always a “friend” nearby who helps break a mysterious code, etc.), but fortunately, the story remains interesting and surprising enough to forgive those problematic bits and the cheap visuals. The ending of the seventh episode was so unsettling that it gave me the chills. (24/09/2010)
