Thrainn Bertelsson seeks inspiration in the children's books of Gudrun Helgadóttir about the extraordinary twins, Jon Oddur and Jon Bjarni, who are growing up in Reykjavik in the early 1980s, where opinions and relationships between people are in a state of flux. The brothers sneak off from summer camp with two of their friends, and end up in adventure after adventure. But they are not alone in the world. Their parents are engaged in nursing and teaching, their grandmother drives a jeep and is known as Granddragon, Soffia looks after the house, and the result of the boys' experiment to discover whether she really loves them turns out to be positive. Their grandfather has always been away, has scarcely existed; but when he appears it becomes clear to all and sundry that he not only exists, but is hale and very hearty.
