anglais I have to admit that I still have quite big gaps in certain areas of film making. French films are one such deficiency, but even more so are the films with Brigitte Bardot. I can't recall ever having seen a film with her. How did I actually come across this woman recently? It was because I was writing my story "Cesta" (Journey) and I was thinking about which characters should appear in it. BB specifically caught my attention. I didn't include her in the story, at least not for now, but I came across some of her films, so I thought it would be nice to watch one. I chose the comedy "Babeta Goes to War". I mainly know French comedies where Louis de Funès plays, so I was quite curious about something different. "Babeta Goes to War" is not a completely crazy comedy like "The Gendarmes", but it definitely doesn't lack much to be called something similar. The film relies on the fact that people like to make fun of war and especially of the Germans, Nazis, but also on the fact that they love BB. The storyline revolves around the fact that Babeta, naive or at least pretending to be, finds herself in the war, basically right on the front line. Not because she is supposed to fight in the trenches, but she rather fights among the high-ranking officials. She becomes a double or maybe even triple agent, although she remains loyal to France. But that doesn't really matter because it's mainly about how each side uses her and she, thanks to her cunning, can fool everyone and ultimately help the side that is, of course, against the Gestapo. The Gestapo is depicted as a bunch of idiots, the French are not portrayed as great heroes either, but let's be honest, there are not many of them here. BB charms everyone with her beauty, and even though she is actually the catalyst of events, she is also a puppet. You will believe in her innocence because her beauty is simply disarming. Whether her innocent face captivates you or not will determine your opinion of the film. For me, it's more of an average comedy with a good joke here and there, more conversational than grotesque, but as a whole, it's just a snack that doesn't have a very substantial plot. At the time of its creation, it probably had a bigger impact, although if it had been made about ten years earlier, it would have attracted even more audience.
