Haunting of Winchester House

The film was weak in all respects, the plot predictable, the final twist very unoriginal (by which I mean I've seen it in a much better version) and, overall, I was bored. One star is more than enough. (28/10/2020)

Anyone who’s seen my profile will know that I’m willing to watch any silly horror movie that comes out, but I ignored Haunting of Winchester House for almost a year because I thought it wasn’t interesting enough to waste my time. Yesterday I noticed some fairly interesting mixed reviews that showed up here, and I decided to put things right and see with my own eyes whether this would be a boring farce or a forgotten gem. Ladies and gentlemen, lo and behold, Haunting of Winchester House is something completely different, it’s horror pinnacle of very bad films. The actors are awful, the direction is tragic… but the film tries so hard to scare the viewer – and it does succeed a couple of times (!!!) – that I can’t be hard on it without feeling sorry, especially since it has a pretty action packed plot for a ghost story. Anyway, I don’t recommend it, though there are much worse films out there. (04/09/2010)
