Après être sorti de prison, Bobby tente de refaire sa vie en trouvant un emploi et en essayant de renouer avec son ancienne petite amie, Alyssa. Il part habiter dans l'ancien appartement de sa mère, décédée lorsqu'il était en prison. Dès son arrivée il fait la connaissance de ses voisins, en particulier Gina et son mari, un policier violent. Peu à peu il est confronté à des phénomènes étranges et découvre que la mort de sa mère serait liée aux locataires de l'immeuble. Commence alors un terrifiant combat pour découvrir la vérité. I don’t want to shout it, but I think the fad of American remakes of Asian horror film is finally a thing of the past. The Echo seems to be one of the last representatives of this wave that captivated most horror fans for ten years, and, naturally, it’s not worth much. A very overcooked story with woeful performances and no terror at all.

Ultimately, The Echo is an average film for me. It's not outright bad, but I look at it differently when I know that it's a remake. It's like the film automatically loses something. Even with the songs, I prefer the original versions. Yes, there are exceptions to this rule, but The Echo isn't one of them. If you missed out on the original film, then this definitely won’t be a waste of time for you.
