The stories in Tales of the Black Freighter are extremely expressive and full of anger, hatred, blood, and darkness. They are about the desperate plight of a man whose friends and loved ones have been murdered, and on his journey of revenge, only dead companions and his own thoughts accompany him, thoughts that have gone beyond reason in the desire for revenge. I see it as a separate film, not connected to the comic. Still, it is highly interesting, albeit also morbid. Overall impression: 80%. ()
Butler has incredible charisma even in the "audio" position, but the rest of it is an uninteresting story that clearly can work as "filler" in a comic book, but not as a standalone film. What I miss here is more elaborate animation and a story that would be more immersive. Double the runtime would have helped too. ()
Now that was really psycho. In places, Tales of the Black Freighter reminded me of some of Lovecraft’s stories. The animation was pretty good, too. "Rudely jarring my men from eternal rest, and laying them in the bed I prepared..." ()
