James Cagney simply doesn't disappoint, even in this simple, perhaps unnecessarily comedic film, which would probably work better as a grittier spectacle. Thanks to him, you can still enjoy it to some extent, even though script-wise it's not exactly a great spectacle. Cagney was such a great actor that he could handle comedy without any problems.
