The now legendary Duck and Cover served as an instructional film for American children from the 1950s until the 1980s. Its aim was to prepare them for the possibility of a nuclear explosion. Many spoofs on the film have been made and the phrase “duck and cover” has become a synonym for the cold war. A sentient turtle boy, Bert, was supposed to become a role model for generations of young Americans. The short film, amusing from today’s perspective, shows what to do in case of a nuclear explosion, be it at school, in the street or at a family picnic. (Academia Film Olomouc)
