One Missed Call

Ce n’était pas vraiment un four, même si le concept a plus ou moins été calqué sur Ring/Le Cercle et s’il se base sur un narratif éculé dans lequel un fantôme se venge faute de pouvoir trouver le repos. La première heure n’est pas terrible, mais la dernière demi-heure m’a bien plu, les choses commençant au moins à bouger un peu. Par contre, je préférerais que Shannyn Sossamon se cantonne à des films tels que Les Lois de l'attraction. (07/11/2008)

Unless you expect a horror gem, it shouldn’t disappoint you. Rather than terrifying, the ghosts look mysterious, the heroine is pretty likeable, the main twist is not surprising (it’s been used in many other films), but it does the job. If only I wasn’t sick and tired of the exhausted premise “after coming across the instrument of a curse, the heroine sets out on a journey to either find its maker or to destroy it” I would be more satisfied. I can see why I hardly watch horror movies at all. You see one after a long time and it irritates you the entire time. One Missed Call = absurdity, a mistake. Beware: you may be even more traumatized by it than the main character, the main sub-heroine, and the blonde mini-heroine were. I don't think we'll grow any fonder of this film... (02/10/2009)

I really didn't expect this to be such a mess. The Japanese film felt adequately terrifying, although it was clear that Ring was a significant inspiration. But the American remake is just a rehash of The Ring, probably attempting to argue that if it worked once, it'll work again with different actors. It does not work. (19/08/2015)
