A la mort soudaine de son père, Charlie Price a fait ce qu'il a pu pour reprendre la petite entreprise familiale, une fabrique de chaussures, mais ce n'est pas vraiment son truc, et l'entreprise risque la faillite. A Londres, il fait la connaissance de Lola, une drag queen, qui lui fait découvrir le monde de la mode et ses extravagances. Charlie en tire une idée révolutionnaire: faire des chaussures érotiques. Encouragé par la dynamique Lauren, Charlie engage Lola afin d'imaginer des chaussures sensuelles pour femmes désirant séduire. A la fabrique, ce projet qui piétine les traditions est accueilli avec réticence, et Lola n'est pas la bienvenue. Pourtant, malgré la fronde et les reproches de sa petite amie, Nicola, Charlie tient bon et avance avec Lola. Dans quelques semaines se tiendra le salon de Milan. I like the subject matter, and I like how bizarre it is - by which I mean the plot - because the legacy of a shoe company that only a queer queen can save is just brilliantly daft, but it has its charm. Acting-wise, especially thanks to the performance of Chiwetel Ejiofor, who can't sing very well, the film is worth watching. You just mustn't be prejudiced like some of the characters.

The reviews of this movie here clearly hint at the qualities of this film. Well, you can be the judge of that. Who would like to watch a guy who ends up owning a shoe factory and who gets help saving the factory from a black transvestite, who by the way is portrayed excellently by Chiwetel Ejiofor. The English sometimes have the gift for absurdity in stories and you get a story like that here. If you do devide to give this movie a chance, I think you will end up like Nick Frost, who was the reason I watched this movie in the first place. If you want to see how, do watch this film. I don’t think it will be a waste of your time and on top of that you will experience a story that is definitely based on fact.
