1935. Il est un lieu de rêve où l'alcool et l'argent du jeu coulent à flots, où des filles peu farouches ne demandent qu'à danser toute la nuit. Niché dans la petite bourgade d'Idlewild, Géorgie, ce club s'appelle l'"Eglise". Percival s'y rend chaque soir pour jouer au piano, oublier un métier tuant et un père dominateur et envahissant. Un jour, il y rencontre la belle Angel, une chanteuse dont il tombe amoureux fou. Serait-ce enfin l'occasion de quitter Idlewild pour Chicago et tenter sa chance dans le showbiz ? Rooster, le gérant de l'Eglise, est le meilleur ami du timide Percy, et son exact opposé. Il a fort à faire pour tenir son personnel et sa très remuante clientèle, et sa situation devient franchement intenable lorsque le gangster Trumpy met le grappin sur son établissement. OutKast should have resigned themselves to a jukebox musical and made some proper music videos, toured with their latest album "Idlewild" and everyone would have been fine. Thus, the memory of this exceptional duo becomes somewhat bitter as they signed their names to the greatest black cliché imaginable. Small town, prohibition, and the road to happiness, lined with curvy ladies of color that would put even Joe Baker to shame. The a-historical music in this pretend retro doesn't make the slightest sense, nor does the belief that André 3000 and Big Boi know what acting is all about. Maybe the talking rooster should have given them some advice.

I love Outkast and their music... before "Idlewild". This album simply never grew on me. They have much better things and I have to say that I would probably like a movie based on "Speakerboxxx/The Love Below" more. "Idlewild" still has good music, but just not as memorable, so different. The same goes for the movie, there are many interesting elements, but overall, this mafia drama is overdone and unfortunately dragging.
