The story that takes us back to the period right before the outbreak of the First World War centres around Tóth Manci a milliner turned dancer waiting hopelessly for Pali a young bank clerk from Pest. He is in love with someone else also suffering from an unrequited love. The dancer accepts an offer for a contract in Russia, and by the time Pali realizes that it is her who is in fact worthy of his love, not the wealthy, flirting woman he was hopelessly after, it is too late. A few weeks later Pali is also on his way to Russia, too, albeit on a soldiers' train as the war has, in the meantime, broken out. The public seemed reluctant to accept this end to the story, which was then changed and the story was eventually concluded through a happy ending at the request of the producer. Only the latter version survived, in which Pali gets to the railway station just in time to meet his love who is about to leave for Russia. (texte officiel du distributeur)
