anglais A TV movie set in the same period in which Hotel Rwanda took place. Only this time, from the perspective of Europeans. The visuals are logically worse due to the budgetary constraints and the whole thing only takes place in a few locations. The acting is quite mediocre, and moreover, the characters themselves are basically pretty uninteresting. The directing isn’t that great either. Beyond the Gates does not move you, but it certainly manages to catch your interest, although it assumes that you know at least something about the events of April 1994 in Rwanda. However, despite all the above downsides, this is not as “ostentatious" as the much better known (though undoubtedly excellent) Hotel Rwanda, which therefore may work better for some viewers. ()
